July has been pretty mellow. We spend most of the time inside because it is soooo hot and humid. Everyone who lives in Arizona (or at least those who are spreading propaganda) will tell you that the heat down here isn't so bad because it is a dry heat. What they don't tell you is that starting in June and ending the end of August or September, we have monsoon season. During monsoon season we get rain storms at night and instead of cooling things down, these storms just make it humid. Try 102 degrees and 60 percent humidity - killer!
The kids have come up with a new game to combat this heat. They take a couple of containers of hand soap out to the trampoline. They use a broom and spread the soap all over the trampoline. They also use a little water to get it good and bubbly. They slip and slide all over the trampoline. Even Truman loves to go out and slide around the trampoline.
The two oldest also have recently gotten scooters. These are little three wheeled scooters. We picked Avalon's up at good will for cheap and we got Sterling's for free from my sister. We let them keep the scooters in the house because they are pretty small and the kids race them along the tile trail that goes from the front door to the back door. They are getting pretty smooth on the scooters. They can push off and with both feet on the scooters, turn and everything. The funny thing is that Sterling's scooter is an old Disney princess one and we can't convince him to let us paint it.
The first set of pictures is from a trip to Goldfield. The kids love to go to Goldfield, even when it is hot. We went a couple of afternoons, just to have something to do. Sterling is fascinated by everything old.
Truman is growing up fast. It makes me sad. My baby is getting to be a big boy. He is starting to walk. He goes about 10 steps and then gets on his knees and crawls off as fast as he can. He also talks all of the time. He has picked up some funny words. He says "Thank you" and "ow" a lot lately. He also likes to make up words.
The older two kids have gotten into the Smurfs. We went to McDonald's one day and they got the Smurf toys in their happy meals. They started asking all sorts of questions about the smurfs and so I found them on one of the random cartoon channels. They watch them all of the time now. The funniest thing is how much Aaron is enjoying the Smurfs. For those of you who haven't seen the Smurfs in a while or who haven't ever seen the Smurfs, the Smurfs use the term "smurf" all of the time to mean anything. Most of the time it sounds like a swear word, i.e. "I've been smurfed." Anyway, Aaron has been laughing hysterically about it. For some reason, he has been trying to substitute swear words in for the word "smurf." He does it all in his head, of course, but then he spends most of the time laughing out loud. Today we watched an episode with phrases like "A smurf smurfed a smurfing smurf."
Avalon calls them "Smurf-es". Her pronunciations make me laugh. When she spins around a lot and gets dizzy, she says she is so "busy". I've tried to correct her, but she insists on saying "busy".
On August 9th, Aaron turned 38. The kids were very excited and decorated the house. They also helped me make a cake and decorate it. Aaron's presents weren't that exciting. He got several shirts, a laser pointer, socks and a barbecue grill cover.

The day after on August 10th, Sterling started Kindergarten. I miss having him at home with me. It is so quiet at home and Avalon doesn't know what to do with herself. Sterling loves school and so far, is doing well. Here is a picture from his first day.
Today we had a great day. Elder Bednar came to our Stake Conference to put in a new Stake Presidency. It was a wonderful meeting and it was really nice to hear an apostle speak in a much more personal manner than in General Conference. He was funny and very direct. He told everyone that if they weren't doing their home and visiting teaching, then they weren't truly converted. It was a very spiritual meeting.
Well, that has been our month. Pretty quiet. We are happy and healthy, though and that is what counts.

Why is Sterling's shirt all blacked out?...was he advertising a beer brand or something? Just wondering.

Sterling's shirt is blacked out because it is his school shirt and I'm a little nervous about child stalkers. Aaron thought I should tell you that Sterling is a big Obama supporter and that his shirt was pro-Obama, so we had to block it out because we couldn't handle the shame.
Ha! Kate says bizzy instead of dizzy, too! There are some things that are just too cute to correct. She used to call her forehead her sun-head. Lily still says "be-next" instead of next and I love it.
